What does a Newborn Care Specialist do?
A newborn care specialist provides expert support during the first few weeks and months of your baby’s life. This includes assistance with feeding, sleep routines, diapering, soothing techniques, and overall newborn care to help families transition smoothly into life with their new baby.
-
Why do I need an NCS? Can’t I just do it myself?
Absolutely! Parents are fully capable of caring for their newborns, but sleep deprivation can be incredibly tough and impact both your well-being and your ability to fully enjoy this special time. My goal is to support you, help you get the rest you need, and set your baby up for better sleep—so you can feel more confident, refreshed, and present with your little one.
-
How long does it take to see improvements in my baby’s sleep?
Every baby is different, but many families see positive changes within a few nights to a couple of weeks, depending on their baby’s age and temperament. The goal is to establish healthy sleep habits that will continue to support your little one as they grow.
-
When should I start working on my baby’s sleep habits?
You can begin setting a foundation for healthy sleep habits from day one! While newborns don’t follow strict schedules, gentle routines, sleep cues, and a good sleep environment can help your baby develop positive sleep associations early on.
-
What if my baby has colic or reflux?
I have experience working with babies who have colic or reflux and can offer strategies to help make them more comfortable, including feeding techniques, positioning, and sleep adjustments to improve their rest.
-
Do you sleep while you’re here?
Yes! While my primary focus is caring for your baby, I do rest when your little one is sleeping. This allows me to be well-rested and provide the best care possible throughout the night. I’m always attentive and ready to respond whenever your baby needs me.
-
When should I hire an NCS?
Many families book before their baby arrives to ensure they have support from day one, but I also work with parents who realize they need extra help after their baby is born. Whether you’re expecting or already in the thick of it, it’s never too early or too late to reach out!
-
Can you help with twins or multiples?
Absolutely! Caring for multiples requires extra hands and a solid sleep strategy. I can help create a plan tailored to each baby while also considering their unique needs as twins or multiples.
-
Can you help my baby sleep through the night?
Newborns wake frequently in the early weeks to eat, but my sleep conditioning approach gently encourages longer, more restful stretches of sleep over time. By following a developmentally appropriate routine, focusing on healthy sleep habits, and responding to your baby’s cues, my goal is to have them sleeping through the night by 12 weeks. Every baby is different, but with consistency and the right strategies, we can set the foundation for great sleep that lasts!
